Cake magic

I have to admit that I'm a total sucker for a cake buffet, as opposed to one big fat wedding cake.  I love the variety of flavors, textures, and architecture visible in a gallery of cakes at an event.  This one is spectacular--these are all from Rae and Noah's wedding which is featured on MS.  Cakes from Cheryl Kleinman Cakes, photos from Dave Robbins Photography.

(Note to reader:  yes, I did procrastinate on ordering my own wedding cake until it was too late to get what I wanted.  yes, I was forced to do a cake buffet before I loved such things.  yes, it ended up being one of my very favorite parts of our wedding)

Back from a break!

I get so distracted when the sun comes out, and it has been GORGEOUS in Seattle for a few weeks.  It looks like we only have a few days left before more rain, so I'm already mourning the loss and desperately working to get a few more things into the ground.  I've been a gardening madwoman, planting ferns, vine maples, winter and witch hazel.  The boys and I have been ripping out ground cover that has run rampant for years, and I learned to use the CHAINSAW--and very heavily pruned/thinned all of the wild rhododendron we have growing.

Martha Stewart Living's March issue just came out, and is the "Special Gardening Issue" they traditionally do in early spring.  It's the best one they've ever done.  The issue is all about the five senses of gardening, and it poetically features beautiful spaces, yummy berries and seasonal recipes, tweety little songbirds, fragrant herbs, and an ode to gloveless gardening (the reason I willingly sacrifice any hope of ever having pretty nails), among oodles of other great articles and resources.

I'm dreaming about putting these hypertufa pots everywhere.  They look easy peasy.

More pretties...

Flowers from Fiore Blossoms for Urban Unveiled, photos from the lovely Kim Bamberg of La Vie Photo.   And...don't forget the We Heart Sharlane event tonight.  EVERYONE is invited--it's not an industry-only party;  it's not a planning party for brides.  It's for anyone that loves getting beautiful family photos done, eating delicious meals at some of Seattle's most exciting restaurants, going on a weekend getaway, playing with flowers, or going to the spa.  AND it's for anyone that likes to get that warm fuzzy feeling while doing so. We love you Sharlane!

A few pretty pictures...

Some shots of my table for Urban Unveiled back in October, courtesy of my talented and FUN friend Kim Bamberg of La Vie Photography and Junebug Weddings. Love that girl! The last image shows the rest of my space and a varied display of bouquets with COLOR!

We Heart Sharlane!

Sharlane Chase is one of the most generous and lovely women in the Seattle wedding industry.  She is generous in spirit and energy (on top of her photography business, she co-created Urban Unveiled from the ground up) and with her stuff (thanks for always sending such beautiful photos Sharlane!). Sharlane stands out in any crowd as one sweet lady, good friend and supportive colleague to so many people.

Sharlane has had a fairy tale year, complete with romance and a dashing prince (he proposed at this year's Urban Unveiled), and the unfortunate dark side that so many fairy tales take before their happy ending.  Soon after the big proposal, Sharlane was diagnosed with cancer and has been in treatment since.  Now we all have to pull together to work on that happy ending.  The stress of medical bills for a small business owner is crushing, so everyone is pulling together for a big shindig this Thursday night to help Sharlane.  ANYONE and EVERYONE is invited!

This is your chance to see the beautifully renovated SODO Park space, eat amazing treats from Herban Feast, and bid on items at a silent auction with all proceeds going towards Sharlane's mounting medical bills.  Admission is by a suggested $10 donation, and the list of donated items is pretty spectacular!  Items range from portrait and wedding photo packages from some of the most talented photographers in Seattle, a bridal gown of your choice from The Bridal Garden in Kirkland (my favorite dress store in the state!), hand-crafted artisan jewelry (Abaloria and more!), numerous romantic getaway weekends, restaurant gift certificates, a few flowers...

I'm contributing a class for six-people to do a little flower arranging over champagne and snacks. "Bloom Basics" will cover selecting flowers and other none floral organic elements, selecting containers, preparing flowers, and basics of styling.  Everyone will take home their masterpiece in a gorgeous container!  I'll have a lovely selection of varied blooms, and we'll just have fun PLAYING!  I can't wait!  It would make a wonderful mother's day gift for several friends and their moms, or just a lovely afternoon out for peeps that love flowers!

Please come on Thursday.  It's going to be a heartwarming event filled with love for one pretty awesome lady.
